Quick answer
Uzès holds its truffle markets on Wednesday and Saturday mornings, 7:30 to 13:00, from mid-December to the end of March; Carpentras on Friday mornings from mid-November; Richerenches, about 65 km and 1h13 from Uzès, on Saturday mornings. There is no truffle market in summer, so a summer 2027 stay will not see one.
Good for: a winter morning at a market where growers and buyers still deal in the open air.
Not for: a spring or summer stay: the markets are a winter matter.
Black truffles are the winter crop of the garrigue, and three markets show how it is sold: a small expert stall in Uzès, a Friday market at Carpentras and, at Richerenches, the village that calls itself the historic capital of the truffle. Read our Uzès markets guide for the Uzès markets and our winter guide for the rest of the season; Carpentras is in Carpentras and the Comtat and the Drôme side in Grignan and the Drôme.
| What | What to know | Check before you go |
|---|---|---|
| Drive from Uzès | Uzès is five minutes from La Valette. Carpentras is about 59 minutes (see our Carpentras guide). Richerenches is about 65 km and 1h13 by car (a route planner, Rome2Rio); a bus takes about 4h18 with transfers. | A live map on the day; winter mornings can be slower. |
| Uzès: Wednesday and Saturday | During the winter truffle season the Uzès tourist office lists the weekly markets on Wednesday and Saturday mornings, 7:30 to 13:00, from mid-December to the end of March. We found no market on Sunday outside the festival weekend. | The season dates are those of the tourist office for this winter: confirm them for the following one. |
| Uzès: the Week-end de la Truffe | The festival is held in mid-January. In 2026 it ran from Friday to Sunday, with a Sunday market on the Place aux Herbes of about twenty growers, a mass with the blessing of the truffles at the cathedral and demonstrations of truffle hunting with dogs. The truffles for sale are inspected from 7:00 to 9:00. | The 2027 dates are not published. Sources disagree on the edition number (32nd or 44th) and the creation year (1994 or 1983), so we give neither. |
| Carpentras: Friday | From mid-November to the end of March a truffle market is held on Friday mornings, before the general market; its dates can change with the stock. Our Carpentras guide describes the day. | The first truffle Friday of the new season is announced late: check shortly before. |
| Richerenches: Saturday morning | A winter truffle market runs on Saturday mornings, about 9:00 to 13:00, until mid-March. The wholesale sale takes place on the cours du Mistral, and the retail sale and local products on the avenue de la Rabasse. The official opening for the public, the Ban des Truffes, is listed on a Saturday in early December, with a blessing, a parade and omelette tastings; the Messe des Truffes is held on the third Sunday of January, followed by the market. | Sources differ on when the market starts, from November to early December: confirm with the village. Truffle hunts with dogs are paid and no price is given. We found no hours for the museum of the truffle and the wine. |
In season
December to March, one market a morning
Because the markets are in winter, a spring or summer 2027 visit cannot see them: the next chance is the winter after. If you are booking a winter stay, choose the week by the market you want: Wednesday or Saturday in Uzès, Friday in Carpentras, Saturday in Richerenches, and the mid-January weekend for the festival.
A day
Early, because the best go first
Our Uzès markets guide advises arriving by about 9:00 because the best specimens go early. On a Saturday you can choose between Uzès, five minutes away, and Richerenches, 1h13 away, for the more serious trade; we give no drive time between Richerenches and Carpentras because we did not find one.
Combine
Add a market town or the Drôme
Carpentras and the Comtat combines the Friday truffle market with the general market and the old town, Grignan and the Drôme lies on the Drôme side of the same country, and our Uzès markets guide lists the weekly markets for the rest of the year.
