Quick answer

For a short flat walk take the Eure valley at the edge of Uzès (about 6.5 km, 2 h 30) or the Pont Saint-Nicolas loop (5.8 km, about 2 h); for a morning with some climbing, the Castellas de Russan loop (5.6 km) or the Concluses loop (8.4 km, 289 m); for a whole day, the Collias circuit (10.7 to 12.8 km, about 4 hours) or Mont Bouquet (about 9 km, 450 m). The figures differ between sources by up to a few kilometres, so treat them as a guide.

Good for: choosing a walk by the time and legs you have, and seeing at a glance which ones start near Uzès.

Not for: navigation: the figures come from walking sites, so follow the waymarks and check a map before you set off.

Each route is described in the walking guide, the nature guide or the Gorges du Gardon guide; before a summer walk read the summer-heat guide, before a winter one the winter-walks guide, and for the best months the spring guide. The village loop from our own commune is in the Sanilhac-Sagriès guide.

How we sorted them

Distance and climb, not a grade

Most of the walking sources do not rate their routes, and where they do (the Castellas loop is moderate, the Concluses loop medium) we say so. The three levels are ours and are a way to sort the figures: easy is up to about 7 km with little or no climb, moderate is up to about 9 km or about 300 m of climbing, and demanding is anything longer or steeper. Shade, rock, heat and the state of the path change how a walk feels more than any figure does.

When

April to June and September to October

The nature guide gives April to June and September to October as the most comfortable months, and says to walk early or in the last hour before sunset in July and August, with plenty of water. The nesting-eagle sectors of the Gardon stay closed until 30 June. For the heat and the fire levels see the summer-heat guide; for short days see the winter-walks guide.

Frequently asked

Walks near Uzès

The Sentier de la Baume starts in Sanilhac, the commune of the house, and the Eure valley is five minutes away in Uzès. The Baume path can be closed: the nature guide has its current status.

By the figures, the Eure valley at the edge of Uzès (about 6.5 km, 2 h 30, no real climb) and the aqueduct paths from Castillon-du-Gard (mostly flat tracks). The Pont Saint-Nicolas loop (5.8 km, about 2 h) is listed as easy.

Sources differ: 10.7 km, 299 m of climb and 3 h 55 on one walking site, and 12.8 km, 292 m and 4 h 30 from Gard tourism. Plan for about four hours and avoid it after rain, when the banks can be under water.

We found no source that rates the routes for children, so we do not. The flat ones at the top of the table are the natural choice; for any walk read the distance and the climb first, and carry water.
