Quick answer

The sights of Uzès are close together on the old town's hill: the Duché, the cathedral with its round tower, the medieval garden and the Borias museum are a few minutes' walk from each other. Hours below are the 2026 hours from the official listings; those for 2027 are mostly not published yet.

Good for: a morning or an afternoon on foot, in any season, with a rain-proof plan: the Duché and both museums are indoors.

Not for: a full day: Uzès is quick to see, so combine it with the Pont du Gard, a market morning or a day trip.

This is the list of the sights themselves. For the markets, the pottery village and the day-to-day, see things to do near Uzès; for a plan with meals, 48 hours in Uzès; for Saturday and Wednesday mornings on the Place aux Herbes, our market guide.

The ducal residence

The Duché, with a guide

The Duché is visited with a guide. The 2026 listing gives departures at 10:30, 11:30, 12:30 (in high season), 14:30, 15:50 and 17:10, and the route runs through the apartments, the cellars and the dungeon. The Tour Bermonde, one of the towers, has a panoramic view over the roofs of Uzès.

Check the day's tour times on the Duché's own site before you walk up: older pages give a lunch break.

The bell tower

A round tower from the 12th century

The Tour Fenestrelle is the bell tower of the Saint-Théodorit cathedral: 42 metres, Romanesque, and round, which most sources call the only round bell tower in France (one source says one of the few). It takes its name from the many paired windows on its storeys, and it is the part that survived when the cathedral was largely destroyed in the Wars of Religion. The Gard tourist board lists the tower as not open to visitors for safety reasons, so you see it from outside; the city's guided tours of the historic centre, which start at the tourist office, include it (a 2022 programme gave them as 1 h 30 to 2 h; check the current times).

Sources differ on the dates of the cathedral: one builds it from 1090, another from 1642. We give neither as fact.

The garden

The medieval garden, in season

The medieval garden is a seasonal visit: the tourist office lists it open daily from 13:00 to 17:30 until 1 November 2026, then closed for the winter, and already lists the 2027 season, from 24 March, with 10:00 to 19:00 in July and August. It is run by an association, shows itself as a living herbarium, and also holds exhibitions and concerts.

Indoors and free

Two museums and the stud

The Borias museum is the town's own museum, in the former bishop's palace; the Haribo candy museum on the edge of town is the family stop and is covered in things to do near Uzès. The Haras national is free and self-guided from September to June, which makes it a good last stop on a short day; in July and August it opens only with the tourist office's guided visits.

The order

How we would string them together

On a Saturday or Wednesday morning start on the Place aux Herbes for the market (our market guide), then walk up to the Duché and the cathedral; the medieval garden and the museum open in the afternoon. In winter, when the garden is closed, the Duché, the museum and the stud are the plan: see Uzès in winter. Dates of exhibitions and concerts change every month: see what's on.
