Quick answer
The Arles tourist office lists the 58th Rencontres d'Arles from 5 July to 3 October 2027, with an opening week from 6 to 12 July, as the bicentenary of photography. The programme, the venues and the 2027 rates were not published when we looked, so we give none. Arles is about 50 minutes from La Valette (51 km), which makes it a day trip in any of those months; July and August are hot, so plan the morning for the exhibitions and the afternoon for shade.
Good for: planning a summer or early-autumn day in Arles around the festival, and choosing a base 50 minutes away.
Not for: the programme or the tickets: neither was published when we looked, so use the festival's own site.
For Arles itself see the Arles guide, with the Alyscamps, the antiquity museum and the LUMA park; for Arles against Avignon, Arles or Avignon; for the light and the photography festival in Uzès, the photography guide; for the heat, the summer-heat guide; for the Roman cities around, the Roman cities guide.

A day
Morning in the exhibitions, afternoon in the shade
Our own computation puts sunrise in Uzès at about 06:13 in mid-July, so a start from La Valette at 08:00 puts you in the town by 09:00, before the heat. Keep the exhibitions for the morning, then use the park of LUMA (listed free, open 7:00 to 18:30), the Alyscamps or the antiquity museum in the afternoon; see the Arles guide for their hours, which differ in winter. For the heat and the fire levels on the way home, see the summer-heat guide.
A week
Photography on both sides of the Rhône
Before the festival opens, Les Azimutés d'Uzès, a photography festival now held every two years, runs from 26 June to 3 July 2027 in Uzès itself, on the theme "Au-delà du visible"; see the photography guide. In the week of 16 and 17 July the Tour de France passes Alès and the Cirque de Navacelles (the Tour de France page). Arles has a hot July: keep two days in the week for the river, shade or a museum.
